Abhay Shukla

Dr. Abhay Shukla is a Public health physician, with a postgraduate degree in Community Medicine from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Since 1995 he has been working on health issues in Maharashtra, in collaboration with people’s movements and grassroots NGOs. He is presently Coordinator of SATHI-CEHAT, is a member of the National Rural Health Mission Advisory Group for Community Action, and is one of the national organisers of People’s Health Movement – India. He has co-edited / co-authored the books ‘Review of Health care in India’, ‘Report on Health inequities in Maharashtra’, ‘Health system in India – crisis and alternatives’ and ‘The Rights Approach to Health and Health care’. He coordinated the national secretariat of Jan Swasthya Abhiyan (PHM-India) during 2003 to 2008 and was centrally involved in organisation of JSA's Right to Health care campaign. He has played an active role in developing the framework of Community based monitoring and planning (CBMP) of health services at national level, and is involved in coordinating implementation of CBMP in Maharashtra. Along with his team members, Abhay is actively involved in promoting regulation of the private medical sector and discussions on a public-centred system for Universal Health Care in India.
